Home Ownership Training
We will provide individual counseling as you begin the path towards home ownership. You will also attend two 3-hour sessions at the MSU (Michigan State University) Extension offices in Jackson. These classes are scheduled every other month, and are mandatory for financial assistance.
Home Buyers Club
For those of you not quite yet ready for home ownership, we offer a monthly meeting of the Home Buyers Club. These meetings will assist you in budgeting, handling credit issues, financial literacy, and many other aspects of the responsibility of home ownership.
Credit Education
The Financial Literacy Committee, formed by local organizations and lenders concerned with financial literacy, sponsors a quarterly series of 3 sessions. This series will cover everything from setting up your first savings account to handling your checkbook to dealing with credit issues.
Down Payment Assistance
Once you have been approved for our assistance, we can provide from $1,000 to $2,000 for your closing costs, prepaids, and down payment to purchase a home in the city of Jackson. If you are purchasing a home outside the city limits of Jackson, but within Jackson County, we will guide you in obtaining a MSHDA mortgage and down payment assistance.
Credit Repair
Credit Repair funds are available for homebuyers who have a one-time credit blemish that must be paid in order to obtain a mortgage. This could be an item not paid at the time due to medical emergency, divorce or loss of employment. Payment would be made at the home purchase closing.
Foreclosure Prevention
This program can assist you to bring your mortgage payments current if you have received a foreclosure notice. Eligible circumstances include medical emergency, divorce, and loss of employment. You must have completely recovered from the event and show that you will be able to keep your payments current.
